Troutman Pepper
Troutman Pepper, an Am Law 100 firm, was formed in 2020 when Troutman Sanders and Pepper Hamilton merged to become a new firm with greater depth and breadth of talent and service.
Our history with Troutman extends back nearly a decade when we partnered with a creative team to deliver (for Troutman Sanders) a comprehensive refresh to align the firm’s communications, branding, and digital presence.
To ensure that we achieved Troutman’s goals for the project, we evaluated technological decisions by asking: “Does this make it easier for the firm’s clients to find what they need?” If we answered, “Yes,” we endeavored to include the feature or functionality. If not, we weighed options together and discussed other courses of action. This included the robust RubyLaw API Connector, making all content accessible for integration with internal systems, and giving the firm greater control over data, as well as the potential to generate richer insights.
The launch of the Troutman Sanders website included dynamic video content and abundant thought leadership that provided more opportunities for current and prospective clients to engage with the firm. With RubyLaw Smart Search, visitors could surface the most relevant information quickly and easily, while a more streamlined navigational structure facilitated a more accurate and efficient visitor experience. Meanwhile, a floating side navigation tool made bio searching easier, and custom PDF generation provided attorneys and supporting staff with dynamically generated documents. Finally, aspects of the design motif were carried through to the site structure, providing subtle visual cues that link the digital environment to the creative strategy.
In 2019, we were invited back to explore the design and technological implications of a tie-up as the firm pursued a merger with Pepper Hamilton. As a first step, we led an immersive discovery workshop to prioritize requirements and detail a plan for design evolution, content migration, integration, and other, RubyLaw-supported technological enhancements.
To support the official merger announcement in 2020, we prepared a phased launch, introducing a new Troutman Pepper brand identity and Day 1 digital requirements. Later, we completed the final phases of the M&A project, launching an updated RubyLaw CMS-backed website while continuing to provide ongoing support to the firm.
